The Tandoori Oven - Since 1985

Well-know Indian restaurant the Tandoori Oven and neighbouring restaurant have all sustained extensive damage as a result of a blase that is believed to have been deliberalety lit in the early hours of Tuesday, 10th June, 2008.

Police were patrolling Harbour Drive around 12.40am when they noticed smoke emerging from the rear of the Tandoori Oven, which is situated about halfway down the restaurant strip.

On closer inspection, they fround the back storage area of the restaurant well alight. Local fire crews were called to the area and extinguished the blaze but not before the Tandoori Oven sustained major fire damage.

Police established a crime scene at the premises, and forensic detectives were in attendance.

Police believe the blaze was deliberatey lit and have launched an investigation into the incident.

History

ornament Opening the doors for the first night in 1985, Chin and Jaya Chetty have owned and operated the family orientated restaurant for over 12 years.

On their retirement in late 1997, they made way for their only son, Colin and his wife Renee to take over. With the new generation of Chettys, came the new look for the restaurant - a modern new colour throughout, enhancing the authentic Indian artifacts which are proudly displayed around the restaurant.

Having an authentic charcoal fired Tandoor oven, and an extensive menu, you will easily find something that you will love. Choose from the mildest of dishes to the hottest of curries. Group bookings and parties are all catered for with several different menus to choose from.

With a specials menu changing weekly, there will always be something new to try. So come in, and see for yourself why we are the longest established restaurant on the jetty strip.
